Review: Bobbi Brown Hot Cocoa Palette

Hi Ladies!

For the month of December, Bobbi Brown was running a Facebook Gift of Glam giveaway. They were giving away tons of the Hot Cocoa Palette ($80.00 value) and a grand prize of $500.00 worth of Bobbi Brown products. This was really an awesome and generous contest. I was one of the lucky winners of the Hot Cocoa Palette. I was very excited to win this since I don't ever win these type of things. Also, I have never tried any Bobbi Brown products before (primarily because of the cost). Below is a review of this palette and a look that I created with it.

First off, here is the packaging:

I was very impressed with the packaging. The palette is heavy duty and beautifully made. The palette comes with 8 eyeshadows. 4 are matte and 4 are shimmer or glitter.

Next, Here are some swatches. The colors didn't come out that great as many of them were matte and on the lighter side.

These are the colors on the left side of the palette. There were 3 mattes and one brown shimmer/glitter.

These colors were on the right side of the palette. This side had 2 shimmers, one glitter, and one matte.

This is the blush which is a pretty pink.

Here is the look that I created with these shadows. I ended up combining a bunch of colors to create this look. I started with the light pinkish/purple color from the right side on the lids. I then took the matte brown from that side and blended into the crease. It looked really dull and uneven so I ended up going over it with the shimmery brown from the left had side. Next, I took the matte white (left side) and highlighted my brown bone. I went back over it with the shimmer white from the white side. I lined my lower lash line with the matte brown and then with the shimmer brown. I used the glitter white color on the inner corners of my eyes and when it didn't show up that well I went back in with the shimmer white. I then lightly blended in the whole eye with a flat soft blending brush. Lastly, I lined my upper lashes with the Kat Von D Tattoo liner in Trooper. To finish off the look, I used the blush on my cheeks.

Also used in this look was BareMinerals foundation in Medium Beige, Nars Laguna Bronzer, M.A.C. Mineralize Skinfinish Powder in  Dark Deep, M.A.C. brow pencil in Lingering, M.A.C. Zoomlash in Black, E.L.F. HD concealer, and Mabelline Baby Lips in Peach Kiss.

I really wasn't thrilled with this palette after swatching it and using it. The shadows are a bit disappointing as they aren't super pigmented and aren't soft. So, for $80.00 I would not recommend it. There are so many other great brands that have better quality shadows for less money. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome of this look. It took a lot of layering to get a look that I liked. I will probably use a couple of these shadows and the blush but that is about it.

Has anyone else tried Bobbi Brown products that they liked? Was this palette a fluke? Post your comments below!

Have fun but be safe tonight celebrating the New Year!

Thanks!

xoxo Tanya

  1. Oh wow, what a bummer!! I have never tried Bobbi Brown products, but I always figured they would be amazing.

For that price, you can get way better things at better quality, like you mentioned.

But I do love the look you came up with, you look beautiful! The blush is a pretty color, I would definitely get a lot of use out of it! And the packaging is nice, I just wish the shadows were a bit better.

Thankfully you won this and didn't shell out $80!

Hope you have a wonderful New Year's Eve!!

    1. Hey Lily! Yeah I was really surprised. Maybe its just a fluke and the other palettes and products aren't like this one. Thank you for the complement! I'm glad I could create a decent look so that it doesn't go to waste it just won't be my go to palette. Happy New Year to you too!
